More Than Half Of Europeans Support Cannabis Legalization

The journey to legalize cannabis in Europe has taken a new direction in recent years.

The use of medical cannabis across Europe, the production and marketing of CBD products, and the domino effect of state-level adult-use legalization in the United States brought Europeans to see the legalization of recreational cannabis from a new perspective.

According to a report by Hanway, a London-based consultancy agency, 55% of Europeans support legalizing recreational cannabis, while almost 30% of respondents are interested in trying it.

The report, published in April 2022 and made in collaboration with Curaleaf International, Cansativa Group, and the international commercial law firm Ince, provides an overview of the current status of recreational cannabis in Europe and shows the sentiment of the European population towards the legalization of cannabis for recreational use.

London-based market research consultancy Savanta ComRes interviewed a nationally representative sample of 9,043 adults aged over 18 across 8 European markets in France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Netherlands, Portugal, Switzerland, and the UK between February 24 and March 14.

Italy is the European country that most support legalization (60%), followed by Portugal (59%) and Switzerland (58%). Instead, Germany and the Netherlands are the European countries that most oppose legalization (29%), followed by France and the UK (27%). [Read more at Forbes]
